Mounds of Cerros

Across the bay from Corozal Town are the mounds of Cerros, which was the site of the first Maya coastal trading center. Cerros is considered to be one of the most important late pre-Classic Maya sites because it represented the first experiment of “kingship” in the Maya world. The remains include a number of temples, plazas, ball courts, canals, and other minor structures. This is an ideal location for taking pictures and it is easy to access from Corozal Town, either by ship or by 4×4.
